Boku No Fanservice, Dispatch 01 - Lyall Hopkins
This is my first published dispatch on Boku No Fanservice, and it has been rewritten and expanded from its original version, which was first hosted on Blogger approximately 5 months before this dispatch was reposted. It also marks the start of Lyall’s visual evolution and ongoing development.
It's now been 2 years since the start of his 3D-modelled head that was published on Sketchfab by my partner, Kilynn Tor. I'd like to use this dispatch to talk briefly about how I'd like this character to develop and progress and why I want this character to exist in the first place.
It's my hope Lyall becomes my own Mickey Mouse, established and recognised with the general public as a Furtainment (Furtain) character and a small acknowledgement of myself as its creator and my partner Kilynn Tor as co-creator, much like Ub Iwerks was Walt Disney’s closest early collaborator and the primary artist behind Mickey’s original look.
The name Lyall is based on the famous American "y'all", as my partner Kilynn Tor is from Alabama, and I thought it was a cute first name paired with Hopkins for his rabbit features. I wanted a name that incorporated aspects of American culture and her own local dialect.
WIP Artworks:
Thesse are work‑in‑progress human created 3D models, one of a lyall hopkins head Kilynn Tor has been working on. And the other I fesothe created first as a bust my first ever concept art. Both are related to the post itself, I like dropping in whatever’s on my desk to break up the text and keep the Dispatch feeling like a real studio log.
Lyall Hopkins will be the main character for my future 3D animated show, Banjolia, and my future game that will be called Banjolia – Echoes of Strings. He's a hybrid creature, a mixture of hippopotamus and rabbit features, which makes him unique but unorthodox in terms of traditional animal characters, like those Disney creates for their shows, movies, games, and so on.
I'm looking for his body design to resemble something along the lines of Klonoa: shorts, shoes, maybe a hat, and maybe a summer waistcoat with colours along the lines of greens, with perhaps gold trim.
His job speciality is that of a bard, so this will enter into the design of his clothing, including belts and backpack storage for his banjo, a musical instrument he also uses as a weapon on his journeys and will be prominently used in our future gameplay.
The banjo was chosen due to him being an American-styled character in name and creativity; it's my hope he reflects positive aspects of my partner Alamama's heritage and is accepted by the wider community. And should I move there and take Furtainment with me to Alabama, I'd hope he becomes a well-known business mascot also.
Hopefully the next dispatch about his development will show more progress on his head and perhaps body. You'll be able to find his profile at lyallhopkins.com as soon as I've had more time to work on the HTML template for characters. In the meantime, you can view the 3D collection for Lyall Hopkins on Sketchfab at the link below.
